Director of International Trade

Mediq is on its journey to further strengthen its Sourcing and Trading activities under the leadership of the recently appointed CPO. The ambition of is to create a commercially successful fast moving trading team that drives profitable growth externally. And help internal business units to improve margins via supply/demand flexibility. We are hiring a Director of International Trade who will be leading the Trade Team and is responsible for revenues across all European markets and export. In this role you have the opportunity to become part of this exciting journey and shape your own future at Mediq. This role will be part of the global Sourcing & Trade team and reports directly to the CPO.

What are you going to do?

The Director of International Trade is leading the Trade teams and is end responsible for revenue growth, gross profit growth across all European markets and Export. He or she drives effectiveness of the Trade Team. He or she ensures the sales teams are approaching the right customers, with the right offering per customer. He or she elevates the competencies of the team and builds effective cross functional working relations with the Mediq Business Units.

Further key accountabilities:

Strategy

  • Refine, update and successfully implement the Trade Channel Strategy in Mediq
  • Develop business in new channels and new geographies
  • Develop Trade activities as a commercial lever for the sourcing team
  • Re-position Trade organisation as service provider to the business units by offering up/down volume flexibility and act as a rapid response team on opportunities
  • Strengthen the customer bids of the Mediq business units with attractive sport buy opportunities in the Trade channel
  • Explore new markets and/or segments to fuel the M&A roadmap of Mediq

P&L and Performance Management

  • Manage Revenue and Margin on Trade Activities in line with financial plan
  • Drive corrective action plans where results are at risk
  • Optimize costs of organisation
  • Support financial planning in yearly budgets and long-term strategic plan
  • Manage overall performance in line with KPI targets set
  • Identify gaps and initiate corrective action
  • Set-up review meetings with internal stakeholders and external partners

Business Partnering & Communication

  • Be an integrated business partner to the Business Units and Mediq Own Brand organisation and develop effective working relations
  • Understand the commercial category strategy and business priorities and display a relentless drive to turn opportunity into result
  • Lead periodic business reviews with the Mediq BU’s to evaluate performance and define joint improvement plans
  • Communicates proactively to customers, suppliers, his team and Mediq
  • Presents results in a mature way at executive levels
  • Adjusts communication to his audience

Commercial Management

  • Develop a network of capable Traders and commission based agents
  • Improve access to the market, increase up/down volume flexibility and gain competitive advantage via spot buy opportunities
  • Manages the sales funnel: make sure commercial opportunities get follow-up and are driven to tangible results
  • Develop business by exploring new segments and/or geographies
  • Develop an incentive system for Trade partners and commission based agents

Team Leadership

  • Manages a team of around 25- 30 employees across Netherlands
  • Builds people Capability and attracts talent
  • Mobilizes the team for change
  • Grows employee engagement
  • Cultivates an atmosphere of trust, inclusion, openness and teamwork

Change Leadership

  • Reposition Trade as Service Provider to the Mediq Business Units
  • Merge various teams into one coherent organisation
  • Build an action driven result oriented commercial team
  • Coach people and grow capabilities in the organisation

What is your background?

Essential for this role is that you have excellent people leadership skills combined with outstanding commercial management experience and are able to work in a cross functional international matrix environment. This requires excellent stakeholder management skills, an inclusive leadership style, a positive can-do mentality and a sharp eye for results.

Experience & Knowledge

  • Master Degree and 8-15 years working experience
  • Experience in a mid-size/large multinational

  • Experience in International Sales Leadership position
  • Elementary knowledge of Dutch & English language
  • Experience in Medical or Trading environment is a pre

Sourcing

Our Sourcing department takes the lead in monitoring and improving the quality of supplier management.
They play a major supporting role and lead the preparations for negotiations with suppliers within the relevant
categories.
